Storing the Songs for the Night

"But no one says, "Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night." Job 35:10

Well...sometimes it just gets on your mind and it will not go away!  Many times of ignoring...still won't go away.  So, here it is.

The Lord gives us the song.  Through our ears, hearts, minds, emotions, outward physical responses as in clapping and dancing  There's joy, real joy in song.  We worship, bow down in the message of the song, the power of the moment in Worship of Him.  We know the blessing that returns in the overshadowing of His peace and grace to us - His children - His Little Ones when we have sent a message in song and it has been received, acceptable in His sight.  Many thanks to the prolific composers and artists who have given us an abundance of Worship songs in the last few decades.  Here at LSCC we bring several every week in Worship.

But where do we go for the song the Lord sings to us?  Zephaniah 3:17 "The Lord your God is with you, he is mighty to save, He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing."  Many of today's praise songs include this message (e.g., "Mighty to Save" (Felding, Morgan, Galbraith).  The hymns of past generations, still offered in our services, reflect His singing love over us with passages from His Word (e.g., "How Firm a Foundation" (Foundation Tune) - based on 2 Timothy 2:19, Hebrews 13:5; Isaiah 43:1-2.  Just reading the words brings strength directly from the Master's own lips.

My point is this:  if you should need a "Song in the Night" at a time of great distress, do you have at least one entire song FROM the Lord to comfort you, to strengthen you; AND, do you have at least one entire song TO the Lord to praise Him for the situation, difficult though it may be for you at that time?

Memorize His Word for the times that may come upon you when you can't read them from the Bible; memorize the Song for the time that may come upon you when you don't have music to lead you.

Even though the repertoire is enormous to choose from, don't delay in choosing the ones that have spoken to you FROM the Lord.  Praise Him with the ones that delight Him in Worship.

Be ready.
